The Brief A Modern Family Bathroom in Halewood

Our client in Halewood had a dated bathroom with a low ceiling and limited storage — a common challenge in older properties across Liverpool. They wanted a modern, light-feeling space that still had plenty of practical storage for a family, without the room feeling cramped.

We worked closely with them from the first consultation through to final handover, agreeing every detail of the design before work started. That careful planning is what makes the difference between a good bathroom and a stunning one.

Before and After

The before-and-after photos tell the story better than words can. The original bathroom felt dark, dated and much smaller than it actually was. The finished space feels bright, open and considered — every fixture and tile choice earning its place.

Day One - Protecting Your Home

Every bathroom renovation we complete in Halewood starts the same way: with protection. Before any tools come out, we lay protective floor coverings (we use Roll & Stroll) along every hallway, stair and room we’ll walk through, and cover any nearby furniture or bedding with dust sheets.

Your home is your home — we treat it that way from the moment we arrive.

Strip-Out and First-Fix Plumbing and Electrics

Once the area is protected, we fully strip out the existing bathroom. This is the stage where most of our clients ask two questions: how long will the water be off, and how long will the toilet be out of action?

Here’s what we typically find on a Halewood project like this one:

  • Water is usually off for most of the first day while we rip out and first-fix the plumbing, then briefly on day two while we connect everything back up. This gives us time to pressure-test and guarantee there are no leaks.

  • Electrics are normally off for around an hour on day two. Our team installs all the new circuits, tests them, and then reconnects to the mains — we know how disruptive a full day without power is when you’re working from home, so we keep that window as short as possible.

  • Toilets are trickier. You’ll have a working toilet every evening unless there’s unforeseen work needed to something like a soil stack. During the day the bathroom toilet will be out of action while we’re working, but we’ll always talk you through this in advance.

These timings are guidelines based on our typical Halewood projects and may vary depending on the condition of the existing plumbing and the scope of work agreed.

Midway Through - Tanking, Waterproofing and Tiling

By the halfway point, the bathroom is fully first-fixed with plumbing, electrics and joinery complete. Before any tiling starts, we tank and waterproof the walls — a step some fitters rush or skip entirely, but one that protects your investment for the long term.

For this Halewood renovation, our clients chose a beautiful 120 × 60cm marble-effect porcelain tile as the main feature, paired with a darker 60 × 60cm porcelain floor tile to give the room a touch of luxury contrast.

We always tile using a base-and-wedge levelling system, which eliminates lippage between tiles and gives a consistent 2mm grout line across the whole room. All internal corners are siliconed rather than grouted, which futureproofs the finish against natural movement in the building and makes the bathroom much easier to keep clean.

The Finished Bathroom

The room was fully fitted with a suite from Easy Bathrooms and brassware from Aqualisa. A warm grey palette was chosen to complement the veining in the marble tile and deliver the hotel-style finish our clients were looking for.

One detail we’re particularly proud of on this Halewood project is the overflow bath filler. It’s a slightly more expensive solution that requires concealed valves, but it keeps the design clean, makes the bath easier to clean, and removes any sharp edges around the bath itself — a real benefit in a family bathroom where children are using the space.

Handover - No More Monday Jitters

A lot of our customers tell us about the ‘Monday jitters’ the weekend before a project starts. It’s completely understandable — a bathroom renovation is a significant investment, and it affects one of the most-used rooms in the house.

Seeing that anxiety turn into genuine happiness on the final day is the part of the job our fitters love most. That pride in every finished room is what sets our team apart, and it’s why so much of our Halewood work comes through word-of-mouth recommendation.
