Shower Room Fitters in Bebington, Wirral

Junk Room Conversion Case Study

Looking for shower room fitters in Bebington? Stunning Bathrooms recently converted a junk room at a Bebington, Wirral property into a fully functioning shower room — complete with a walk-in shower, a new skylight, and an oak-finish vanity paired with contemporary tiling. This project ran alongside the main Edwardian bathroom renovation at the same property.

With 35 years of bathroom fitting experience across Merseyside and Cheshire, we’re a trusted local choice for homeowners in Bebington and the surrounding CH63 postcode area. This case study walks you through the project from start to finish, so you can see exactly what to expect when you book us for your own shower room conversion.

The Brief - Modern Touches, Original Character

The spec was to modernise the room slightly without overpowering the original character of the house. The way we achieved this was to use modern fixtures and fittings paired with contemporary wall and floor tiles — both in size and shade.

The three main features were always going to be the walk-in shower, a wooden beam that matches the oak-finish vanity, and the floor tiles. Everything else was built around these.

Before and After - And What the Client Said

The before-and-after photos speak for themselves — a completely one-of-a-kind transformation from unused storage space to a beautiful, usable shower room. As our client wrote afterwards: Kirk and his team carried out two jobs — complete renovation of existing bathroom and conversion of a junk room into a shower room. Superb from first visit, through design, purchase and installation. Excellent communication and attention to detail throughout. I couldn’t be happier with the finished rooms.

Starting Off - The Skylight Install

The first major piece of work was installing a skylight. This brought much-needed natural light into what had been a dark, unused room, and the moment it was in we could tell how special this transformation was going to be. Natural light genuinely changes the feel of a shower room — it’s worth considering in any conversion where the existing window access is limited.

Stripping Out and Reconstructing the Room

We removed everything from the room and started reconstruction. Every wall was studded out to ensure a solid, plumb surface for us to fix substrate to. Adding insulation to the studs at this stage gives two benefits: better thermal efficiency, and genuine noise reduction when the shower’s in use.

All wet areas were then tanked before any tiling started. Tanking is a step some fitters rush or skip — we never do. It’s the difference between a shower room that lasts five years and one that lasts twenty.

Tiling Layout - Symmetry and Clean Recesses

We laid out the tiles so every cut at the end of each wall is symmetrical, and so the shower recess flows naturally into the surrounding tiles without needing awkward L-shape cuts. That kind of thing isn’t always obvious in the finished room, but it’s what separates good tiling from great tiling.

With the tiling complete, we moved onto second-fix plumbing, the full suite install, and the finishing touches — decorator work, door frame touch-ups, caulking.

The Finished Shower Room

The walk-in shower is the star of the room, with the wooden beam tying together the oak-finish vanity underneath and echoing the character of the Edwardian house. The floor tiles add weight and warmth without taking over the space.

It’s the kind of conversion that genuinely changes how a property functions — taking an unused room and turning it into one of the most-used rooms in the house.
