How Long Does a Bathroom Renovation Take? What to Expect
If you are planning a bathroom renovation, one of the first things you will want to know is how long it is going to take. Nobody wants to be without a working bathroom for longer than necessary, so here is an honest breakdown of what to expect.
Most complete bathroom renovations take 5 working days — start on Monday, finished by Friday. More complex projects involving layout changes or larger rooms typically take 7–10 working days. At Stunning Bathrooms, we handle every trade in-house, which means no delays waiting for separate contractors.
Why Are We Faster Than Most?
The main reason is that we handle every trade in-house. Most bathroom renovation companies subcontract out some or all of the specialist work — a plumber one day, an electrician the next, a tiler the day after that. Each trade has their own schedule, and if one is delayed, everything else is pushed back.
With Stunning Bathrooms, one team does everything. Plumbing, electrics, tiling, plastering, finishing — it is all handled by our own people, on our schedule. That means no waiting around for the next contractor to become available. You can read more about our in-house approach on our about page.
A Typical 5-Day Bathroom Renovation Timeline
Here is what a standard bathroom renovation looks like, day by day:
Day 1 — Strip-out and preparation. We remove the existing bathroom — old bath, shower, basin, toilet, tiles, flooring. All waste is bagged and removed from your property. We protect hallways and stairs with sheeting. Plumbing and electrical first-fix begins.
Day 2 — Plumbing and electrics. All pipework is repositioned or replaced as needed for the new layout. Electrical wiring is installed for lighting, extractor fan, heated towel rail and any other features. Walls are prepared for tiling — plastering if required.
Day 3 — Tiling. Wall tiling begins and is typically completed in a single day for a standard bathroom. Floor preparation also takes place.
Day 4 — Floor tiling and fixtures. Floor tiles are laid. Bathroom fixtures start going in — bath, shower tray, basin, toilet, vanity unit. Shower screens and enclosures are fitted.
Day 5 — Finishing and handover. Final fixtures are fitted — mirrors, accessories, towel rails. All silicone sealing and grouting is completed. The bathroom is thoroughly cleaned and handed over to you, spotless and ready to use.

What Might Take Longer?
Some projects need more time. Common reasons include:
Layout changes — Moving the position of the bath, shower or toilet requires rerouting pipework and possibly drainage, which can add 1–2 days.
Structural work — If floors need levelling, walls need building, or joists need reinforcing, this adds time at the preparation stage.
Large rooms — A large master bathroom with extensive tiling simply takes longer than a compact en-suite.
Bespoke features — Custom joinery, built-in storage, media installations or complex lighting schemes require additional time.
We always provide a clear timeline before any work starts, so you know exactly what to expect. There are never any surprises.
Minimising Disruption to Your Home
We understand that having work done in your home is an inconvenience. Here is how we minimise it:
All hallways and stairs are protected with dust sheets and floor covering before any work begins.
Waste is removed every single day. We never leave a pile of rubble or old fixtures in your home overnight.
The work area is left clean and tidy every evening. When we leave at the end of each day, you will barely know we have been there.
This commitment to cleanliness and respect for your home is one of the reasons we are rated 5.0 across 145 Google reviews. Our customers regularly mention how tidy and professional our team is.
