This case study walks you through the project from start to finish, so you can see exactly what to expect when you book Stunning Bathrooms for your own Bebington bathroom renovation. (Note: this is the main bathroom project. The shower room conversion that followed at the same property is covered on our separate Bebington shower room page.

The Brief - Edwardian Character, Modern Quality

Our clients wanted a bathroom that honoured the Edwardian character of the property itself. The specification was specific: a framed basin, a traditional toilet, and a large custom-finish roll-top freestanding bath as the main feature.

Getting this right meant sourcing period-appropriate fixtures, pairing them with modern construction standards, and sweating the details on colour and proportion. We worked closely with the clients from the first visit through to final handover.

Before and After

The before-and-after photos show the scale of what was achieved — a tired, dated bathroom transformed into an elegant Edwardian-inspired retreat. As the client wrote afterwards: Kirk and his team carried out two jobs — complete renovation of the existing bathroom and conversion of a junk room into a shower room. Superb from first visit through design, purchase and installation.

Strip-Out - Back to Bare Brick

As with every project, we started with full protection of the surrounding areas, then shut off the water supply and began the rip-out. Prevention is always better than cure — shutting the water off first means zero risk of leaks during demolition.

In an old Edwardian house like this one, the only way to guarantee perfectly level walls was to replace them entirely. We were particular about materials — Eco-Therm plasterboard on all external walls, for example — because in a room this size, thermal performance really matters.

Panelling, Tiling and a Colour Choice That Paid Off

Once the walls were plastered and the floor tiled, Jack from JD Joinery came in to fit the panelling. This was one of the biggest design calls on the project — the final plan was only confirmed two days before installation. We settled on full panelling rather than picture frames, and the depth and sharpness it adds to the room is exactly what the Edwardian style needed.

The walls were painted in Farrow & Ball — credit to our clients for the colour choice, which really does the room justice. It’s the kind of decision that reads as confident rather than safe, and it makes all the difference.

The Centrepiece - A Custom-Finish Roll-Top Bath

The standout feature is the custom roll-top freestanding bath. We matched it to a specific RAL colour and worked with Auto Renew (a local body repair centre) to get the finish spot on — not a standard factory colour, but something genuinely one-of-one.

Paired with a Harrogate bathroom line, an oval-column cast-iron radiator in antique brass, and a chrome framed basin, the whole room sits comfortably in its Edwardian setting while still feeling fresh and liveable.

Lighting - Kichler Ceiling Fitting and Matching Wall Lights

Arguably the piece de resistance is the Kichler Lacey Mission Bronze semi-flush ceiling fitting. Paired with matching wall lights, they give the room its warmth and soul after dark — the perfect room to run a bath and wind down.

The Bigger Job - A 12m Soil Stack Replacement

This Bebington renovation involved more than just the main bathroom. We also replaced 12 metres of 100mm cast iron soil stack with 110mm plastic soil pipe, which let us add an additional toilet to the pipe and route all new waste directly into it.

With the Edwardian house rising more than 12 metres above ground, keeping the entire length perfectly level in every direction was a significant piece of work. We used red brick dye to fill in the old holes so the external finish stays in keeping with the original building.
